Dhaka: Mild to moderate tremors were felt in different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, early this morning. The earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, struck at 4:47 am today, causing panic particularly in Sylhet district and the capital. The tremor lasted for a few seconds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, no reports of damage have been received from anywhere in the country so far. The Meteorological Department stated that the epicenter of the earthquake was located about three kilometers west of Dhing town in India’s State of Assam and around 76 kilometers northeast of Guwahati city near the Meghalaya-Assam border. The quake originated at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers from the surface.
Due to the proximity of geographical location, the tremor was felt more in Bangladesh’s Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, alongside India’s northeastern states. Light to moderate shaking was also felt in the capital Dhaka.
