Beirut: The United Nations reported a significant increase in displacement within Lebanon, with over 100,000 people newly displaced in a single day due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Karolina Lindholm Billing, the UN refugee agency's representative in Lebanon, stated that more than 667,000 individuals have registered as displaced on the Lebanese government's online platform. This marks an increase of 100,000 in just one day, indicating a rapid escalation in the situation.
Billing emphasized that this rate of displacement is occurring much faster than in 2024, highlighting the urgency and severity of the current crisis. She communicated these developments from Beirut during a briefing with reporters in Geneva.
