Chattogram: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today called upon the cadets of the Marine Fisheries Academy (MFA) to enhance the nation's reputation by diligently fulfilling their duties in their future workplaces. 'The key basis for progress in working life is hard work, punctuality, honesty, efficiency, values, and devotion to the country. By imbibing these values, I hope you (cadets) will brighten the image of the country through discharging duties in your future workplaces,' she said. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made the call while addressing the passing out parade-2024 of the 43rd batch of cadets of the Marine Fisheries Academy in Chattogram, said a ministry press release. She emphasized that fisheries resources hold significant importance in the national economy, not only by meeting the food and nutritional needs of the country's people but also by generating employment. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is dedicated to transforming this academy into a modern maritime educational institution by enhancing its infrastructure, manpower, and training facilities, Farida added. She also highlighted the Bay of Bengal as a vital source of natural resources, which supplies a substantial amount of fish resources to meet the protein needs of the country's population. Farida urged the cadets to take a leading role in preserving biodiversity, preventing environmental pollution in the Bay of Bengal, and efficiently managing the collection, conservation, and marketing of fish resources. This year, a total of 106 cadets, including 12 females, graduated from the 43rd batch of the academy. The adviser distributed medals to the cadets in recognition of their achievements. Cadet Mohammad Ahsan Ul Anwar of the Marine Fisheries Department was awarded the 'Best All-Rounder Gold Medal' for achieving the highest standards in all subjects among the 43rd batch. Additionally, Cadet Md. Raihan Hossain Majumder from the Nautical Science Department, Cadet Md. Jobair Abdullah from the Marine E ngineering Department, and Cadet Mohammad Ahsan Ul Anwar from the Marine Fisheries Department received the 'Best in Professional Training Silver Medal' for their outstanding performance in their respective departments. Cadet Sharmin Sultana of the Nautical Science Department was recognized as the 'Best Female in Professional Training Silver Medal' for her achievements among female cadets. The event was attended by Senior Secretary of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock MA Akmal Hossain Azad, Additional Secretary Amena Begum, Additional Secretary Syeda Nawara Jahan, Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Dr Md Ziauddin, BFDC Chairman Suraiya Akhtar Jahan, Director General of Fisheries Department Md. Zillur Rahman, Registrar of Maritime University Commodore Md Monir Uddin Mallik, Commandant of Marine Academy Captain Md Ibne Kaiser Taimur, Principal of National Maritime Institute Captain Ataur Rahman, as well as guardians of cadets and representatives from various shipping agencies. Captain Mohammad Hasan, Princ ipal of Marine Fisheries Academy, presided over the ceremony.
