Khulna: A district level coordination meeting was held in Khulna today to review progress of the ongoing measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, which is being conducted from April 20 to May 10. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Civil Surgeon’s Office, where officials discussed strategies to ensure full coverage of the campaign targeting children aged between six months and under five years with a single dose of MR vaccine.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mosammat Mahfuza Khatun presided over the meeting and emphasized the need to strengthen household-level verification to achieve herd immunity against measles. She also stressed raising awareness among parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine. She urged all stakeholders to actively participate in promotional activities supporting the vaccination drive and called upon mosque imams and muezzins, alongside community leaders, to contribute to the success of the campaign.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman delivered the welcome address, while detailed information on the MR vaccine was presented by Dr. Nazmur Rahman Sajib, Medical Officer of the World Health Organization. Officials from various government departments, UNO, and Upazila Health Office and Family Planning Officer attended the meeting.
A target has been set to vaccinate 1,56,420 children across nine upazila in Khulna district. So far, 89 percent of the target has been achieved. The campaign is being conducted daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, except on government holidays.
