Dhaka: The National Consensus Commission today convened a meeting with the July fighters at the LD Hall of the National Parliament. Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia, and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider, among others, were present, according to a press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, the July fighters voiced their concerns that many of them, despite possessing health cards, have been unable to access essential medical services at various hospitals since the last Eid-ul-Azha. They urged the Health Adviser to issue a written directive to all hospitals in the country to ensure medical treatment for the injured July fighters.

Additionally, the July fighters emphasized the necessity of taking measures to provide legal protection for their family members and highlighted the importance of issuing a specific identity card for each fighter. They also discussed the October 17 incident, expressing that it was unforeseen and that their presence at the South Plaza of the National Parliament was to advocate for their legitimate demands, not to incite chaos or violence.

The July fighters explained that outsiders infiltrated the area during the incident, resulting in fights and vandalism. They expressed regret over the events, apologized, and requested the Commission’s help in having the four cases filed in connection with the incident withdrawn.

The Commission assured that all demands presented by the July fighters would be seriously considered, and the relevant authorities would be informed to take necessary actions to address their issues. The thirteen-member delegation of the July fighters included Md. Sohag Mahmud, Kamrul Hasan, Md. Al-Amin, Mustain Billah Habibi, Hasibul Hasan Jisan, Marufa Maya, Ahadul Islam, Majedul Haque Shanto, Md. Sagar Uddin, Md. Dulal Khan, Md. Nahiduzzaman, Imran Khan, and Nusrat Jahan.
