Meeting Held on Security Arrangements for Khaleda Zia’s State Funeral

Dhaka: A high-level meeting was convened today to discuss the overall security arrangements for the state funeral of former three-time Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The meeting addressed the logistics for the burial, public tributes, and ensuring nationwide security during the events.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs, chaired by Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Following the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, along with Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, who is also the head of the security team for Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, briefed the media.



They outlined that comprehensive measures are being put in place to facilitate public homage, burial proceedings, and to maintain law and order throughout the events. The meeting finalized the arrangements for the funeral, burial, and security of the national leader, who passed away at Evercare Hospital at 6:00 am today.



The meeting saw participation from senior advisors, security chiefs, military officials, and BNP representatives. It was decided that the state funeral will be conducted at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, with burial arrangements coordinated alongside Evercare Hospital. The proceedings will be held with full state honors, reflecting a collaborative effort between the government and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as noted by CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam during the briefing.



In addition, a one-day national holiday has been declared, and three days of national mourning will be observed. Security agencies are actively reviewing arrangements to ensure smooth public participation and safety during the events.



Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Shamsul Islam expressed his gratitude to the interim government and confirmed BNP’s cooperation to ensure peaceful public tributes. He highlighted Begum Khaleda Zia’s significant contributions to the restoration of democracy, her three terms as Prime Minister, and her extensive public service. Both the government and BNP have urged the public to cooperate in ensuring a dignified and orderly farewell for the late national leader.
