Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman today highlighted the crucial role that journalists play in nurturing democracy, emphasizing that the media is regarded as one of the fundamental pillars of a democratic society. He made these remarks during an event celebrating the 43rd founding anniversary of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister acknowledged the significant risks and challenges faced by crime reporters, noting that their work often involves considerable danger and personal cost. He stated that an adequate protection system for journalists in Bangladesh is still lacking, which leaves many working in the profession without necessary safeguards.

Minister Rahman pledged his support to journalists, assuring them that the government is committed to addressing their needs. "Whenever you feel that something is necessary, contact me. Together, we will solve the problems. The government is by your side," he promised, reinforcing his commitment to stand by the journalistic community.

The event was chaired by CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tamal and moderated by General Secretary M. M. Badshah. It was attended by Jatiya Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, along with other former and current leaders and members of CRAB.
