Dhaka: Syed Imran Ahmed, the co-founder and former guitarist of the metal band 'Mechanix', passed away on Sunday morning after a prolonged battle with cancer that lasted approximately one and a half years. Mechanix vocalist Aftabuzzaman Tridib confirmed the passing in a heartfelt social media post, expressing his deep sorrow and requesting prayers for Imran.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Imran was laid to rest at Mohammadpur Tajmahal Road Cemetery following the traditional namaz-e-janaza, which took place at the cemetery mosque after Asr prayers on Sunday. The music and band community across Bangladesh has expressed their grief over his untimely death, recognizing his contributions to the heavy metal music scene.
Mechanix, which debuted in 2005, played a pivotal role in the development of heavy metal music in Bangladesh. Imran co-founded the band alongside Tridib but left in 2008, choosing not to join any other band due to professional commitments. Despite this, he maintained a close friendship with Mechanix members. After his cancer diagnosis, the band organized a fundraising concert on July 25, featuring performances by eight bands, including Mechanix and Highway, to support his treatment.
Imran, who appeared in the second season of the television music reality show 'D Rockstars' in 2007, gained wider recognition as a guitarist. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, leaving behind a legacy in the music industry and among his loved ones.
