Dhaka: Five more children have died due to measles and measles-like symptoms within a 24-hour period ending at 8:00 am on Saturday. This brings the country's total count of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to 1,053 for the year.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that one of the recent deaths was confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining four were categorized as suspected measles deaths. This update raises the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 101 and suspected deaths to 952.
In the same 24-hour timeframe, 941 new suspected measles cases were identified, increasing the nationwide total of suspected cases to 178,666. Additionally, 79 new confirmed measles cases were documented, which brings the overall number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 20,474.
Since March 15, a total of 157,556 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of these, 151,395 individuals have since recovered, as per DGHS data.
