Chattogram:City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has stressed the importance of public awareness and regular child vaccinations in the global pursuit of a polio-free world. Speaking at a rally and awareness program, he highlighted the necessity of collective efforts from the government, healthcare workers, and voluntary organizations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the RIPSA team of Rotary International District 65 at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Chattogram. Dr. Hossain explained the severe complications of polio, a contagious viral disease, including permanent paralysis in children, underscoring the prevention potential through vaccination.
The Mayor emphasized the need for no child to be excluded from vaccination programs, and the importance of dispelling vaccine-related misconceptions among parents. He acknowledged Bangladesh's significant progress in eradicating polio but noted that the global objective of complete eradication remains unmet. To maintain progress, he advocated for continued vaccination, disease detection, and surveillance efforts.
The event was presided over by Rotarian PP Mantaka Zaman Kappi and featured Dr. Fazle Rabbi, a Director at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and PDG Abdul Ahad, an advisor to the RIPSA committee, as special guests. Additionally, 10 sewing machines were distributed to underprivileged women to aid in their financial independence.
