Dhaka: Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani today announced that the government has decided to declare March 18 a public holiday. He made this announcement while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was reached during a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat this morning. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. With this new decision, the country will enjoy seven consecutive holidays from March 17 to March 23 in observance of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Nasimul Ghani also stated that the cabinet meeting decided to confer the Independence Award posthumously on former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia this year. Several other individuals are also slated to receive the country’s highest state award.
Additionally, the cabinet secretary mentioned that a directive has been issued regarding the operation of air-conditioners in government offices. Air-conditioners are not to be set below 25 degrees Celsius as part of efforts to prevent electricity wastage. All concerned parties have been urged to adhere to these government directives.
