Bangladesh Bank: Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur has urged the banks to increase lending facilities in remote areas to promote financial inclusion and reduce inequality in access to financial resources. "Similar to previous political centralisation, we've also seen concentration of the financial sector which should be stopped," he said. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur made these remarks while addressing a discussion titled 'Inequality, Financial Crimes, and Healing Bangladesh's Economy' on the occasion of the 3rd Bangladesh Economic Summit 2024 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel. He highlighted that 59 percent of bank loans were disbursed in Dhaka and 17 percent in Chattogram, with the rest being distributed across the country. Mansur also addressed recent policy rate hikes, stating that Bangladesh's current macroeconomic challenges necessitate this measure to curb high inflation and stabilize the economy. He mentioned that it would take at least eight more mont hs to bring inflation down.
