Naogaon: Mango harvesting in the district will begin from May 22 this year, with different varieties entering the market in phases. The harvesting schedule was announced at a view-exchange meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam chaired the meeting, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the harvest of fully matured mangoes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner stated that farmers will be allowed to harvest "Guti" mangoes from May 22. However, in case of any disaster, farmers may seek permission from the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to harvest earlier. He also warned against harvesting or marketing unripe mangoes before the scheduled time, as it could be detrimental to quality and profit.
Different varieties will gradually reach the market once the harvesting begins. The schedule for other varieties includes Gopalbhog from May 30, Khirsapat or Himsagar from June 2, Nak Fazli from June 5, Langra and Haringa from June 10, Amrapali from June 15, Fazli from June 25, Banana Mango from June 25, and Ashwina, BARI Mango-4, Gaurmati, and Katimon from July 5.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Naogaon, upazila nirbahi officers, mango growers, and traders. Mango orchards in Naogaon cover 30,310 hectares of land this year, with a production target set at 3,87,235 tonnes. The district is expected to generate around Taka 40 billion from mango sales this season.
To ensure the successful implementation of the decisions, awareness campaigns will be conducted across the district to promote adherence to the harvesting schedule.
