Raozan: A 56-year-old man was shot dead in public by unidentified miscreants in the Oli Mia Hat area of Purba Gujra Union in Rauzan Upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday evening. The deceased, identified as Abdul Majid Prakash, also known as Mujib Bhandari, was a resident of the Oli Mia Hat area. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 pm while Majid was seated in a grocery shop in the local market.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Sajedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rauzan Police Station, reported that a confrontation had occurred earlier between Majid and certain locals. Shortly after this altercation, the attackers arrived, shot him, and escaped. Majid succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Local sources and BNP affiliates suggested that Majid was involved in Jubo Dal politics, though it remains unclear if he held any formal position within the party. The OC noted that his political connections have not been officially confirmed. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers are from the vicinity, and police have initiated operations to identify and apprehend them.
Tiblu Kanti De, Resident Medical Officer of Rauzan Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that Majid was deceased before being transported to the hospital.
