Jamalpur: A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a rape case in Bakshiganj upazila of the district in 2020. The court also fined the convict Taka 1 lakh. District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict this noon, said public prosecutor of the court Md. Fazlul Haque.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convict is Majmat Ali alias Maja, 41, son of Irfan Ali of Batti village under Bakshiganj upazila of the district. The prosecution detailed that Majmat raped a divorced woman on the pretext of marriage on the night of July 20, 2019, which resulted in the woman becoming pregnant.
The woman subsequently filed a case with Bakshiganj Police Station on February 24, 2020. Following the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Majmat, leading to today's verdict.
