Doha: A court here today awarded life-term imprisonment to a man for raping and killing a child at Maheshkhali upazila in the district in 2022. Mohammad Osman Gani, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Cox's Bazar, pronounced the judgment in presence of the lone accused Md Solaiman at the court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convict, after hearing the judgment, broke into tears and claimed himself as innocent. Solaiman is the son of late Syed Karim of Hoaikang union under Maheshkhali upazila.
State prosecutor advocate Mosharafa Hossain Titu expressed his satisfaction over the judgment and said that justice has been ensured through this judgment and no one would dare to commit such crimes in future witnessing the consequence of this notorious criminal.
She was kidnapped on November 30 in 2022 from the area while returning home from her school. She was later raped, murdered, and her body was dumped. Her body was recovered from Kariardia area under Pekua upazila.
The father of the ill-fated girl filed a case with Maheshkhali Thana on December 3 in 2022 in this connection.
