Naogaon:A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Naogaon court for killing a woman with a drill machine while attempting to steal her gold ornaments.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convict, Sohel Rana alias Hanif, is the son of Mofizul Haque from the Nayanandan Darogabari area under Tongibari Police Station in Munshiganj. Sohel had been living in a rented house in the Pargati area of Naogaon town.
The court also imposed a fine of Tk 5 lakh on Sohel. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional two years in prison. The verdict was delivered by Judge Raju Ahmed of the Naogaon Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 and Special Tribunal-3.
The prosecution detailed that the incident occurred on September 11, 2019, when Kohinoor, the wife of Israil Sheikh from the Pargati area, was alone at home. Sohel, who was familiar with the family and a regular visitor, took advantage of the situation to enter the house. He attacked Kohinoor on the head with a drill machine, causing critical injuries, and fled the scene with cash and gold ornaments.
Locals later found Kohinoor in critical condition and took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
