Gazipur: A Gazipur court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment, while two others received varying jail terms, for the murder of a man in 2005. The verdict was delivered by Judge Amit Kumar Dey of the Gazipur District and Sessions Judge Court-1.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the individual sentenced to life imprisonment is Abdus Sattar from the Sripur upazila in Gazipur district. In addition to the life sentence, Sattar was fined Tk 1 lakh, with a default penalty of an additional five years in jail if unpaid.

The court also handed down a four-year imprisonment sentence to Ahad, accompanied by a fine of Tk 10,000, or an additional year in jail if the fine is not paid. Another accused, Abul, received a one-year jail term and was fined Tk 1,000, with a default penalty of three more months in jail.

The prosecution revealed that Manik Mandal from Sripur upazila was fatally stabbed by the convicts on December 16, 2005. Police had charged 28 individuals in connection with the crime; however, three of the accused passed away during the trial.

After examining records and hearing from ten witnesses, the court acquitted 22 of the accused due to insufficient evidence to support the allegations against them.
