Lakshmipur: A 70-year-old man and his two grandchildren drowned while taking a bath in a pond in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Abu Siddique, 70, and his grandchildren Piyas, 8, son of Abdul Aziz, and Popy Akter, 6, daughter of Sumi Akter.
According to United News of Bangladesh, local people reported that Abu Siddique, along with his grandchildren, went to the pond in the Shakchar area to take a bath. During the bath, Abu Siddique drowned in the pond, and the two children, Piyas and Popy, also drowned while attempting to rescue their grandfather.
Wahid Pervez, Officer-in-Charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station, stated that a team of police visited the spot and necessary steps will be taken after consulting with the family members.
