Maldives President to Meet Tarique Rahman After Oath-Taking Ceremony

Dhaka: President of the Republic of the Maldives Dr Mohamed Muizzu will meet newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman after attending his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday. The President is on an official visit to Bangladesh, invited by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new Bangladesh government.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the visit will take place from February 16 to 18, as confirmed by the President’s office. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh were established on 22 September 1978. Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel will accompany the President at the swearing-in ceremony, a senior official stated.



Dr Muizzu, the 8th President of the Republic of the Maldives, previously congratulated BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections held on February 12. The President conveyed his warm regards and expressed his eagerness to work closely with the new Bangladeshi leadership to enhance the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.



The President of the Maldives expressed confidence that the partnership between the Maldives and Bangladesh will continue to grow in scope and strength in the coming years.
