Main Accused in Rangpur Double Murder Case Arrested from Dhaka

Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in the double murder case of Taraganj police station in Rangpur from Shahbagh under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Dhaka city on Saturday afternoon. The arrested individual was identified as Md Mehedi Hasan, 30, son of Md Isahaque Ali of village Faridabad under Taraganj police station of Rangpur district, a press release confirmed today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims, Ruplal Rabidas, 40, from Ghonirampur village in Taraganj upazila, and his nephew-in-law, Pradeep Lal, 45, from Baluabhata village in Mithapukur upazila, were traveling from Mithapukur upazila to Taraganj upazila in Rangpur on the night of August 9, 2025. On their journey, they were questioned by some individuals around 8.30 pm at Burirhat Bottola intersection under Taraganj police station in Rangpur.



During the questioning, tensions escalated, and the agitated mob forcibly took the victims to the Burirhat High School grounds at 9 pm, where they were brutally attacked with sticks and iron rods. This assault led to severe injuries, resulting in Ruplal Rabidas’s death on the spot. His nephew-in-law, Pradeep Lal, succumbed to his injuries later at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 4 am on August 10, 2025.



Following the incident, Ruplal’s wife filed a murder case with the Taraganj police station in Rangpur on August 10, 2025. Acting on a tip-off, a joint operational team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-10 from Keraniganj Camp conducted a raid and arrested the main accused, Md Mehedi Hasan, from the Shahbagh area in Dhaka at 4:10 pm on Saturday. The arrested accused has been handed over to Taraganj police station in Rangpur for further legal action.
