Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of police has taken into custody Mahila Awami League leader Nahida Noor Sweety, who is identified as the main organizer behind a sudden procession in Tejgaon. The arrest took place in the capital’s Kafrul area this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team from the DB Cyber Division apprehended Sweety during a raid in the Kafrul thana area around 4:00 pm today. A police press release confirmed that Sweety masterminded and orchestrated the unplanned procession, which gathered in front of Rahim Metal Mosque in Tejgaon following Jummah prayer on Friday.

Sweety, who plays a significant role in the Dhaka City North Mahila Awami League, also serves as the Publicity and Publication Secretary for the Kafrul Thana Mahila Awami League. Previously, she held the position of General Secretary for the Kafrul Thana Ward-94 Mahila Awami League.

DB police further revealed that Sweety had been actively organizing leaders and activists from the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League, providing financial support to those participating in the demonstrations. Notably, she joined the procession in Tejgaon herself, concealing her identity by wearing a burqa, alongside her husband. The police press release also mentioned that nine other participants in the procession have been arrested.
