Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam has urged all district information officers to confront misinformation and disinformation campaigns with efficiency. “A group of people have been spreading misinformation meticulously. Confronting these campaigns has become one of the main challenges of the interim government. Information officers must be knowledgeable to tackle such campaigns,” he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser was speaking as the chief guest at a two-day workshop, held at the Bangladesh Computer Council auditorium of ICT Tower at Agargaon. The workshop, titled Digital Verification and Fact-Checking, was organized by the ICT division to boost the efficiency of district information officers.
Mahfuj Alam highlighted that many individuals struggled to accept the July Revolution positively and are participating in misinformation and disinformation campaigns to tarnish the image of students and their revolution. He emphasized the importance of data and information analysis learning, stating that ICT officers must develop fact-checking abilities to determine the source and validity of information.
He urged the officers to work with utmost care to confront rumors and misinformation and called for heightened awareness about such campaigns. Chief Adviser’s special assistant to the ICT ministry, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, also addressed the function as the special guest. He encouraged information officers to act as bridges between the people and the government by detecting and debunking rumors and misinformation.
