Dhaka:Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin has issued a warning that attempts by banned political groups to create instability by exploiting labour protests will not succeed.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister's Office spokesperson emphasized that those involved in violence, vandalism, and sabotage would be brought to justice.
Mahdi Amin, in a post on his verified Facebook page, urged ordinary workers not to be misled by misinformation, rumours or provocations. He assured that the government would always support workers in realizing their legitimate and fair rights, considering the realities of the garment sector. He highlighted the industry's progress as crucial to the lives, livelihoods, and employment of millions, as well as the country's overall economic prosperity.
He expressed belief that constructive discussions could help determine a fair and balanced minimum wage for workers. However, he raised concerns about certain groups attempting to destabilize the garment industry despite positive initiatives to address wages in a timely manner.
Mahdi Amin criticized attempts to divert workers' wage demands towards other agendas through incitement and sabotage, labeling such acts by associates of the ousted autocratic regime as unacceptable. He noted that attacks on factories, arson, vandalism of police vehicles and outposts, and assaults on transport and infrastructure are against workers' own interests.
Evidence has been found of fugitive groups attempting to infiltrate labour movements to create unrest, he added. Mahdi Amin warned that factory damage or closures would hurt workers the most, leading to increased unemployment, reduced export earnings, and serious consequences for the national economy. While advocating for the protection of workers' rights to raise legitimate demands, he stressed that no opportunity should be given to terrorism, vandalism, or destruction of the industrial sector.
