Dhaka:Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education, Mahdi Amin, has highlighted the importance of ensuring effective cybersecurity at both individual and institutional levels, marking it as one of the key priorities of the government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government is actively working on implementing policies and legal frameworks aimed at protecting citizens, safeguarding personal information privacy, and ensuring the dignity and security of individuals online. Mahdi Amin discussed these plans while speaking as the chief guest at the 'CyberFrames National Award' ceremony held at North South University.
During his speech, Mahdi Amin emphasized the growing threat of cyber fraud, financial irregularities, and the spread of disinformation and misinformation, which are causes for concern. He noted that false information is often used to create confusion and commit crimes, including character assassination. Additionally, he pointed out that digital platforms are being used to harass women, contributing to a sense of insecurity.
Mahdi Amin also spoke about the potential for a strong national consensus on cybersecurity through open consultations and dialogue, which would uphold the core objectives of cybersecurity. He underscored the historical significance of North South University, the country's first private university, established under the policies of the BNP government and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
He recalled the contributions of the university's teachers and students during the 2024 July Mass Uprising, reiterating the government's commitment to strengthening private universities. The event was also addressed virtually by North South University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, with attendance from board members and other notable figures.
