Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today highlighted Michael Madhusudan Dutt as a significant figure in the history of Bengali literature, attributing the evolution of modernity in the Bengali language and literature to his works and creative genius.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus made these remarks in a message marking the 202nd birth anniversary of the renowned poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt, which will be celebrated tomorrow. He expressed his delight over the celebration of the Madhusudan Birth Festival on January 25 at Sagardari village in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore district, acknowledging Dutt as a prominent figure in Bengali literature.
The chief adviser praised the initiative to honor such a notable literary personality, extending his greetings and gratitude to those involved in organizing the event. Professor Yunus noted that Dutt elevated the Bengali language to global recognition through his introduction of blank verse, epic-style compositions, and innovative trends in dramatic literature.
He emphasized that Dutt's works, characterized by humanism, free thought, and creativity, continue to inspire and are reflective of human values, patriotism, and liberal thinking. Professor Yunus expressed hope that the Madhusudan Birth Festival would offer opportunities for the younger generation to learn about the poet's life and literature, while also fostering an interest in literary pursuits.
Moreover, he highlighted the festival's role in preserving and promoting cultural identity and wished for the success of all programs organized to commemorate the occasion.
