Dhaka:The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined 39 businesses a total of Tk 426,500 due to irregularities observed during nationwide inspections aimed at enforcing government-fixed prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inspections were carried out by 23 teams from the directorate across Dhaka city and 16 other districts. These operations targeted LPG dealers, wholesalers, and retailers to ensure they adhered to pricing regulations and other related standards.
The directorate's special monitoring campaign was designed to ensure a steady supply of LPG cylinders, prevent overpricing, and stabilize essential commodity prices. Inspections focused on whether businesses displayed price lists, issued purchase and sales receipts, complied with safety regulations, and refrained from selling expired cylinders.
Traders were instructed to avoid creating artificial shortages, unreasonable stockpiles, or supply obstructions. They were also warned to display updated price lists prominently and sell LPG cylinders at the prices set by the government.
Consumers have been advised to check the weight, seal, expiry dates, and any visible defects of LPG cylinders before purchase. Furthermore, they are encouraged to verify displayed prices and obtain receipts or vouchers.
The DNCRP has provided a hotline at 16121 for consumers to report irregularities, including overcharging. The directorate emphasized that these monitoring efforts will continue to uphold market discipline, protect consumer rights, and ensure the sale of LPG cylinders at regulated prices.
