Sher-e-Bangla Nagar:The Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, highlighted the importance of an elected government fulfilling the expectations of its people. Speaking at a review meeting on 'Solar Power, Dengue Prevention and Development Programmes' held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Cooperative Bhaban, he stressed the need for governments elected by popular vote to work swiftly and effectively.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr. Khan emphasized that public representatives must ensure services to the people and be accountable for their actions as they will face the electorate again after five years. The meeting was organized by the Local Government Division, with Dr. Khan serving as the chief guest.
The minister underscored the joint responsibility of government officials and elected representatives to serve the public, advocating for the efficient implementation of development activities while maximizing limited resources. He also pointed out that solar power can significantly alleviate electricity issues and encouraged the installation of solar panels at various administrative levels and in rural areas.
State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, addressing the meeting as a special guest, stressed the significance of honesty, transparency, and efficiency in executing government services and development projects. He highlighted the emphasis on honesty and professional efficiency in government postings and promotions.
Another special guest, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, noted the crucial role of the upazila administration in implementing welfare programs. He mentioned plans to distribute Family Cards and Farmer Cards to all families and farmers over the next four years and discussed the upcoming verification and issuance of licenses for fertilizer dealers.
The meeting also touched on infrastructure improvements, with Alam suggesting the use of concrete and Uni-blocks for rural roads and the introduction of drainage systems in market and port areas. He advocated for exploring the potential of producing organic fertilizer and electricity from waste and encouraged educational institutions to hold annual sports and cultural competitions.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, and other secretaries from various divisions, as well as chief executive officers of city corporations and other local government officials.
