Dhaka: Sohel Islam, who is supervising the Bangladesh Tigers camp at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, said Liton Das has already started intensive work to rectify his problems after being left out of the Champions Trophy squad. Even though Liton did considerably well in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a T20 tournament, his ODI returns were worrisome, a fact that contributed to his axing from the national team.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after the BPL, Liton joined the Bangladesh Tigers camp to prepare himself for the national team by solving his problems. “We are talking about different things. Mainly we talked about how can we help to make the things smoother,” Sohel Islam, who was seen in a long discussion with Liton during the Bangladesh Tigers training camp, told the reporters today.
Sohel acknowledged that Liton is struggling in the one-day format but believes the struggle is temporary. He noted that Liton was in good rhythm before experiencing a slump and suggested that some adjustments could make Liton perfect again. “A cricketer naturally goes through some problems at some point in his career. You just need to sort out those problems and work accordingly. We have found that out and started working on that.”
The Bangladesh Tigers camp is a specialized coaching camp that includes players who are out of the national team alongside promising players. It began today and will continue until February 25 with 21 cricketers. Alongside Liton, players like Mominul Haque, Shamim Patwari, and Afif Hossain have also started off-season training.
Sohel emphasized the importance of communication and alignment with the national team’s coaching staff. “What the coaching staff wants from national players is very important. That’s why communication is important,” Sohel said. “We are staying aligned for that. If any player goes from the Tigers camp to the national team, we want him to be a ready product. Our program is planned basically by keeping the national team in mind.”
The players will leave the camp once they start their training with the local clubs for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which starts in the first week of March. The camp includes players such as Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam Anik, Zakir Hasan, Naim Sheikh, and others.
