Dhaka: The country's leading batter Liton Das is set to participate in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after being signed by the new entrant, Gulshan Cricket Club (GCC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Gulshan Cricket Club has built a team mainly comprising young talents, many of whom have recently graduated from the Bangladesh Under-19 team. Liton's inclusion aims to provide guidance and experience as a senior batter to these young players.
Initially, Liton Das picked up his transfer token after negotiations over remuneration with Abahani Club Limited fell through. However, he did not participate in GCC's debut match against Mohammedan Sporting Club, which has been strengthened this year under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal. Tamim played a significant role in facilitating Liton's recruitment by GCC.
While Liton Das successfully secured a team for the DPL, pacer Mustafizur Rahman remains undecided about his participation in the league, which has held List A status since 2013. Released by Prime Bank before the players' transfer period, Mustafizur now requires a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his former club to join another team. Meanwhile, some Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have reportedly shown interest in signing him.
