Dhaka: Liton Das, a prominent cricketer from Bangladesh, is still without a team in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as the second day of the Inter club players' transfer concludes. Despite attending the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) office on the first day of transfers and collecting his token, Liton, who previously played for Abahani, has not yet signed a contract with any club. His name is noticeably absent from the list of 165 cricketers who have transferred teams over the past two days, as provided by the CCDM.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Liton's prospects of participating in the DPL remain open. CCDM member secretary Sajjad Hossain indicated that since Liton has collected his token, he retains the option to select a club of his choice at any time. Despite this, there is a notable concern among cricketers regarding the substantial reduction in their remuneration for this year's DPL compared to previous years.
Taijul Islam, who has signed with Mohammedan, expressed that the decrease in pay is concerning for cricketers who rely on domestic cricket for their livelihood. Mohammad Mithun, now with Prime Bank Cricket Club, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the expectation of a fair salary for professional work. He highlighted that the drastic reduction in salaries is unexpected for professional cricketers.
Meanwhile, other notable transfers have taken place. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were recruited by Mohammedan on the second day of the players' transfer. Legends of Rupganj have assembled a youthful team with players like Afif Hossain, Akbar Ali, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Mohammad Saifuddin moved to Mohammedan from Abahani Limited, while Imrul Kayes joined Agrani Bank, and Anamul Haque Bijoy signed with Gazi Group Cricketers. Soumya Sarkar joined Legends of Rupganj, and Sabbir Rahman transferred to Partex Sporting Club from Prime Bank.
The DPL, recognized as the country's biggest and oldest club cricket event, is set to feature 12 teams and will commence on March 3.
