Dhaka:Bangladesh captain Liton Das has dismissed calls for his resignation following the team's unsuccessful campaign at the Asian Games, where they failed to secure a medal.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Liton acknowledged the subpar performance of both himself and the team, which did not meet expectations set before the tournament. Bangladesh aimed for a medal but suffered defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, resulting in an early exit from the competition.

Liton admitted his own performance was inadequate, contributing only two runs in the first match and being dismissed without scoring against Sri Lanka. Despite this, he sees no reason to resign, stating that ups and downs are part of cricket.

Reflecting on the missed opportunities, Liton expressed regret, saying the team failed to capitalize on their chances. He highlighted the initial strong bowling performance against Sri Lanka, which was undone by a remarkable innings from an opposing batter.

The captain also pointed out that the team's batting was insufficient to recover the situation, contributing to their failure to meet their medal aspirations. Liton shared his disappointment, acknowledging the natural feeling of letdown for both the team and himself as captain, given their high expectations.
