Dhaka: Four individuals were killed and three others injured in separate lightning strike incidents in Kushtia, Netrakona, and Sunamganj districts today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first incident in Kushtia resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others. At Dahkula village under Alampur union of Sadar upazila, lightning struck a group working in a field around 2:30 pm, leaving four people critically injured. They were taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where Md. Rowshan Ali, son of late Moslem Uddin of Dahkula Karigarpara, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. In another event in Kushtia, Aroz Ali, 28, was killed by lightning while working at his homestead in Narayanpur village.
Dr. Akul Uddin, deputy director of Kushtia Medical College Hospital, confirmed that one individual was brought in deceased following the lightning incident, with others still undergoing treatment. Dr. Touhidul Hasan Tuhin from Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex verified Aroz Ali's death. The local police stations confirmed these occurrences.
In Netrakona, Md Shafiqul Mia, 26, was killed in a lightning strike at Satgaon village in Khaliajuri upazila. The police reported that Shafiqul was grazing ducks in the haor near his house when lightning struck him around 10 am. He died immediately, and his body was recovered by local residents before the police were informed. Officer-in-Charge of Khaliajuri Police Station Md Nasir Uddin confirmed the incident.
In Sunamganj, a boat worker named Md. Shipu Mia, 35, was killed by lightning while on a sand-laden boat in Matiyan Haor of Tahirpur upazila. Shipu, who had left for Tekerghat early in the morning, was struck by lightning at around 7:00 am, resulting in his immediate death. The Officer-in-Charge of Tahirpur Police Station, Faruk Ahmed, confirmed the tragic incident.
