Lightning Strikes Claim Five Lives in Gaibandha

Gaibandha: At least five people were killed in lightning strikes in Phulchhari, Saghata, and Sundarganj upazilas of Gaibandha district on Sunday afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local sources reported that Fuyad, 14, Rafi, 15, and Mizan, 20, from Dhopadanga village in Sundarganj upazila, were standing in a cow shed owned by Suza Chowdhury during a sweeping norwester, known locally as a Kalboishakhi. Lightning struck the cow shed, leaving the three seriously injured. They were promptly taken to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where they were declared dead by an on-duty doctor.

In a separate incident, Manik Miah, 20, son of Shukkur Ali, lost his life when a thunderbolt struck him at Bulbulir char under Fazlupur Union of Phulchhari upazila. The tragic incident was confirmed by local UP chairman Ansar Ali Mondal.

Additionally, Nambar Ali, 65, a farmer from Saghata upazila, was killed by a lightning strike while working in the field. This incident was confirmed by local union parishad chairman Nasirul Islam Swapon.
