Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam on Saturday said public representatives will have to work to build a creative society, taking the people along with them.

He said this while addressing a training course organised for the newly elected councilors of Cumilla City Corporation at Institute of National Local Government in the capitalโ€™s Agargaon as the chief guest.

Local Government Division Secretary Mohammad Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury chaired the function where Cumilla City Corporation Mayor Arfanul Haque Rifat also spoke.

Urging the representatives of the city corporation to turn the Cumilla city into an ideal city, he said the public representatives are pioneers of the society and will have to play a role in developing the society, but not only development of the physical infrastructure.

He said the incidence of dengue in the country is higher this year compared to previous years due to weather.

โ€œThough condition of the dengue is pathetic in the country, we are in a better condition than Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia and Vietnam and Philippines,โ€ the minister claimed.

He, however, said he already asked the mayors to conduct a crackdown to curb the dengue.

Mayor Rifat called upon his all associates to work with honesty and keep themselves from corruption.
