Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that it is necessary for everyone to join hands for disaster management.
At the opening ceremony of the emergency warehouse built by the UN, World Food Programme (WFP) at the old Pokhara Airport in Pokhara, Kaski today, Minister Lekhak said that we must move forward together in the face of disaster.
Home Minister had virtually inaugurated the warehouse as he failed to reach Pokhara due to bad weather. He further opined that three levels of governments should work together to lessen the possible disaster. Minister Lekhak argued that preparedness is key to tackle natural disasters either caused by human beings or climate change.
Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey shared that the provincial government was launching disaster management fund.
Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, held the view that the warehouse established in Pokhara will be helpful in case of emergencies caused by disaster. The European Union is always re
ady to support Nepal in the event of any kind of disaster.
The warehouse was built with the financial support of 161,000 US dollars from the European Union.
Relief materials, rescue equipment, food, generators and other materials are stored in the warehouse, said Ratindra Khatri, the logistics focal point person of the warehouse. Khatri said that this warehouse will be useful during the humanitarian crisis in Gandaki.
