Legal Aid Organization Secures Over Tk 6.63 Crore for Labourers

Dhaka: The National Legal Aid Services Organization has successfully secured Taka 6,63,26,215 as compensation for labourers, as reported on the organization’s website today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the organization has detailed its legal aid services from 2009 to February 2025.



The initiative initially aimed to support poor justice seekers at the district level, eventually expanding to include the Supreme Court. A toll-free number, ‘16430’, was introduced to provide legal aid services specifically to labourers in Dhaka and Chattogram, before being extended to other prisons nationwide.



Dr Md Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the Law Ministry, informed BSS that the organization established two dedicated cells for labourers in 2013. These cells, located in Dhaka and Chattogram, have delivered 21,426 legal advices up to March of this year. Additionally, the organization has provided legal services to 4,421 cases, resolving 804 of them.



The organization has also engaged in alternative dispute resolution, taking on 3,300 cases and resolving 1,913 so far. A total of 29,147 labourers have benefitted from the legal aid services offered by the cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.



Under the guidance of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, the National Legal Aid Services Organization continues to offer free legal services to the country’s poor and marginally poor justice seekers.
