Law Minister Inaugurates Mobile Legal Aid Camp at Karail Slum

Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today inaugurated a mobile legal aid camp at Korail slum in the capital. The initiative was taken to mark the National Legal Aid Day 2026 under the theme “Resolving disputes at government expense, Bangladesh first.”

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the initiative aims to provide legal services to marginalized communities, particularly women and low-income groups. The event was organized by the Law and Justice Division and the National Legal Aid Services Organisation, with technical support from German development agency GIZ Bangladesh. The inauguration took place at Ershad Math (Field) in Karail slum.

Speaking as the chief guest, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that legal assistance reaches every citizen at their doorstep. He noted that those unable to afford a lawyer can receive assistance by calling 16699. The minister also urged the media to play a role in raising awareness about these legal support services.

During the event, the minister provided on-the-spot legal advice to two women, demonstrating the practical impact of the initiative. German Ambassador Dr. Ruediger Lotz endorsed the effort, emphasizing the significance of community-based legal assistance.

Other notable speakers at the event included Director General of the National Legal Aid Services Organisation Md Manjurul Hossain, Joint Secretary of the Law and Justice Division MA Auwal, and GIZ Bangladesh representative Martina Burkard.
