Barishal: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the law and order situation in the country is satisfactory. He made these remarks during an interaction with journalists after a meeting with field-level officers of law enforcement agencies at Barishal district Police Lines.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam mentioned that while the law and order situation is not excellent, it is not poor either. He expressed confidence in the preparedness of law enforcement agencies to ensure the forthcoming parliamentary election is held peacefully and in a manner that is free, fair, and festive. However, he emphasized that a fair election is contingent not only on the efforts of law enforcement but also on the roles played by the Election Commission and political parties.
He highlighted that the peaceful atmosphere of the election would remain undisturbed if the public becomes oriented towards the electoral process. In response to a query about security measures ahead of the ICT verdict against Sheikh Hasina, he assured that all law enforcement bodies are prepared to prevent any untoward incidents.
Addressing issues of recent conflicts between transport workers and students over bus fare in Barishal, Jahangir Alam expressed a commitment to resolving the matter through peaceful discussions. He instructed law enforcement agencies to stay vigilant regarding such issues.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police Monjur Morshed Alam, Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, and police superintendent Sharif Uddin, among others.
