Dhaka: Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury today emphasized that the traditional Mahashtami holy bath at Langalbandh is more than just a religious observance; it is a profound representation of the nation's pluralistic culture, coexistence, and shared humanitarian values. He made these comments as the chief guest at a religious discussion and cultural programme in Narayanganj during the Mahashtami Holy Bath (Punno Snan) 2026.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that the event is a fusion of spiritual devotion and cultural heritage, with significant implications for the country's social and national life. He pointed out that amidst growing global divisions and conflicts, Bangladesh has the chance to distinguish itself as a tolerant, inclusive, and humane society.
Describing the Langalbandh gathering as a symbol of this potential, the minister stated that the country seeks to enhance its global image through culture, tolerance, and humanitarian principles, aspiring to establish its rich cultural legacy as a form of 'soft power.' He also remarked that a nation's true strength lies not only in economic advancement but also in fostering mutual respect and cultural harmony among its citizens.
The minister stressed the importance of creating a sustainable and equitable society where people remain central to development, and the state remains accountable to its citizens. He urged attendees to renew their commitment to self-purification and national unity through the spiritual assembly.
The event was attended by the Member of Parliament from Narayanganj-3, the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, the Administrator of the District Council, and a large gathering of devotees and dignitaries.
