Dhaka: Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder announced today that the land tax collection rate for the last financial year (FY25) was satisfactory and is expected to increase in the upcoming financial year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the improvement in the collection rate can be attributed to the supervision and directives provided by the divisional commissioners. Majumder made these remarks while addressing the ‘Divisional Commissioners Coordination Meeting-July 25’ held at the ministry’s conference room.
In the last financial year, departments under the ministry collected Taka 1,105 crore, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Majumder highlighted the emergence of new islands in coastal districts such as Noakhali and Bhola, viewing these developments as promising for local economies, environments, and livelihoods. He emphasized the necessity of a coordinated approach to ensure the proper utilization of these islands.
Majumder also instructed land acquisition officers to avoid acquiring excess land and urged divisional commissioners to ensure practical supervision. He advocated for the digitization of land acquisition and compensation payment systems, taking cues from the Dhaka District administration’s existing model. Furthermore, he reported that 423 land service assistance centers have been established across 48 districts, excluding three hill districts, with plans to expand these services to the remaining 11 districts soon.
The adviser encouraged divisional commissioners to engage in more welfare-oriented activities and enhance their oversight of such initiatives. The meeting, chaired by senior secretary to the land ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed, was attended by divisional commissioners, additional secretaries, and other relevant officials.
