Gaibandha: Kumari Puja, a significant ritual of the five-day Durga Puja festival, was celebrated at various temples across Gaibandha district today. This ritual forms a central part of the largest religious celebration for the Hindu community.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ritual was observed at the Sree Sree Ramkrishna Ashram and Mission temple on Shachin Chaki Road, near Gaibandha Adarsha College, at around 11 am. This year, Rakhi Misra, a grade-two student and daughter of Sumon Misra and Anu Misra from Masterpara, was selected for the Kumari Puja.
A considerable number of Hindu devotees gathered to offer Anjali, or prayers, before the goddess, seeking blessings for peace, prosperity, welfare, fraternity, and good fortune. Principal Paresh Chandra Saha, President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad district unit, stated that 585 puja mandaps were erected across the seven upazilas of the district this year. Out of these, Kumari Puja was performed at 10 mandaps.
