Khulna: Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) hosted the three-day 8th International Conference on Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development (ICCESD 2026), which concluded on Friday night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and supported by Poles and Concrete Limited (PCL), Kadamtali Steel Mills Private Limited (KSML), Glori Poles Limited (GPL), and Seven Rings Cement. The closing ceremony took place at the Department of Civil Engineering on Friday evening.
Conference Secretary Professor Dr. HM Iqbal Mahmud delivered the welcome address, while Conference Chair and Professor of Civil Engineering Dr. Kazi Hamidul Bari expressed gratitude to the participants in the vote of thanks. Closing remarks were made by Professor Dr. Md Zahir Uddin, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.
Throughout the three-day event, 335 research papers were presented across 42 technical sessions, with four papers receiving best paper awards. Scientists, researchers, engineers, and planners from Bangladesh and other countries participated both physically and virtually.
The conference commenced with an inaugural session on Thursday morning, where KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Maksud Helali served as the chief patron. BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Badruzzaman attended as chief guest, while Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury participated as a special guest. The session was chaired by Conference Chair Professor Dr. Kazi Hamidul Bari.
