Khulna: Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Medical Device Innovation Center of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, to enhance international cooperation in medical technology and innovative research. The bilateral MoU signing ceremony was held at the office of the Vice-Chancellor of KUET, with several dignitaries in attendance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the MoU signing ceremony featured KUET's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md Maksud Helali, as the chief guest. The Registrar, Engineer Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan, represented KUET, while Professor Dr. Feng-Chin Su, Director of the Medical Device Innovation Center, signed on behalf of NCKU.
The agreement aims to facilitate joint research and development in fields such as therapeutic footwear, foot orthotics, human movement biomechanics, and smart wearable systems. It also encompasses faculty, researcher, and student exchange programs, as well as joint scientific seminars and specialized training activities.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the potential benefits of combining KUET's Department of Leather Engineering's expertise in footwear and material science with NCKU's strengths in biomechanics and medical device development. This collaboration is anticipated to spur innovation in medical equipment within Bangladesh, with a focus on research in specialized footwear for diabetic patients and the development of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
