Khulna: A seminar titled "Public Health Research and Higher Education Opportunities" was held at Khulna University (KU) today, with a focus on public health research, the role of statistics, and opportunities for higher education. The Statistics Discipline of KU organized the seminar at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Rezaul Karim attended the program as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the crucial role statistics play in analyzing and effectively presenting research findings, noting that it is increasingly integrated with data science. He emphasized KU's commitment to collaboration with institutions and researchers both domestically and internationally to expand its research activities. "MoUs have already been signed to strengthen research collaboration with industries, and activities in this regard are progressing," he said.
The vice-chancellor urged the university's academic disciplines to take greater initiatives to disseminate KU's research findings internationally and called on the Statistics Discipline to organize international conferences. Such events, he suggested, would enhance networking with researchers globally and provide opportunities to showcase the university's research and achievements.
KU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Harunur Rashid Khan attended the event as a special guest. The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Uttam Kumar Majumder, head of the Statistics Discipline, while Assistant Professor Dr. Sharlin Alauddin delivered the welcome address.
Prominent speakers included Professor Hafiz T.A. Khan, Professor of Public Health Statistics at the University of West London, UK; Professor Dr. ABM Alauddin Chowdhury from the Department of Public Health under the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Daffodil International University; and Mostafa Ashrafuzzaman, joint director of the Demography and Health Wing of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). They discussed aspects of public health research, prospects for research, and higher education opportunities. The speakers also highlighted the importance of statistics in public health research and advised students on building careers in the field.
The seminar was attended by teachers, students of the Statistics Discipline, and other concerned individuals.
