Rajbari: Prime Minister’s Adviser on the Ministry of Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir announced that the ‘Krishak Card’ initiative is set to bring transformative changes and ensure sustainable development within the country’s agricultural sector. Speaking at a farmers’ card distribution event in Deogram union, Goalanda upazila, Dr. Rashed highlighted the government’s commitment to making agriculture technology-driven and self-reliant, with the Krishak Card at the core of these efforts.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Rashed emphasized that the Krishak Card represents the dawn of 21st-century agriculture. He described the card not only as an identity document but as an integrated service platform enabling farmers to access fertilizers, quality seeds, and irrigation fuel efficiently. This initiative aims to reduce production costs, ensure timely cultivation, and stabilize agricultural output. For marginal farmers, the card will serve as a vital tool, providing financial and technological support to bolster their activities.

Dr. Rashed further stressed the crucial role of agriculture, noting that approximately 70 percent of the country’s population relies on the sector. He assured that providing farmers with financial and technological backing remains a top government priority. Under the program, marginal farmers will receive an annual financial aid of Tk 2,500 through the card to mitigate seasonal challenges, while all farmers will have improved access to essential agricultural inputs.

Reflecting on past challenges, Dr. Rashed pointed out the historical stagnation in the agriculture sector, where farmers faced significant hardships. He credited the current government with successfully establishing a robust foundation for agriculture. Looking ahead, he mentioned plans for a nationwide tree-planting program, aiming to plant 2.5 crore trees.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Rashed urged the public to combat corruption, safeguard public property, and reclaim encroached railway lands. He also called for collective efforts to oppose oppression and support those who are oppressed.

At the event, 935 Krishak Cards were distributed to farmers from a total of 1,036 enlisted participants, due to technical limitations. The pre-pilot initiative is being rolled out in five villages within Deogram union. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam also addressed the gathering, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parveen. Other notable attendees included Zila Parishad Administrator Md. Abdus Salam Mia, Superintendent of Police Md. Manzur Morshed, and Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Shahidul Islam.

The State Minister announced plans for a rural agricultural fair in Tenapacha village next winter and a cold storage facility for onion preservation in the char areas.
