KOICA to Provide $8.85m Grant to Bangladesh for Bridge Maintenance Project

Dhaka: The government of Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Republic of Korea, today signed separate agreements to provide an $8.85 million grant to Bangladesh for a road sector initiative. The agreements, which include the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR), focus on a project titled “Capacity Development for Smart Maintenance Technology of Bridges under Roads and Highways Department in Bangladesh,” as stated in an Economic Relations Division (ERD) press release.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirana Mahrukh, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief (Asia, JEC and F and F) of the ERD, signed the RoD and ToR on behalf of the Bangladeshi government. Taeyoung Kim, the Country Director of KOICA, signed on behalf of his organization. The project will be executed by the Roads and Highways Department, which operates under the Road Transport and Highways Division.



KOICA’s contribution of $8.85 million, equivalent to approximately Taka 108.00 crore, will fund the project’s implementation. The primary goal is to enhance bridge safety by incorporating smart technology into bridge maintenance processes.
