Pabna: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan today emphasized the importance of building a knowledge-based society as a crucial factor for the development of both the state and society, highlighting books as a powerful medium for the dissemination of knowledge. “The importance of books has not diminished despite changes in learning patterns in this internet-based era. Knowledge, experience, and history continue to pass from generation to generation through books,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks as the chief guest while inaugurating a book fair in Pabna. He stressed that an educated and informed citizenry is essential for ensuring accountable governance in a democratic state. The minister noted that events like book fairs play a vital role in fostering a knowledge-based and merit-driven generation.

Referring to the country’s recent political developments, Minister Swapan highlighted that people’s voting rights have been restored through long struggle and sacrifice, leading to the formation of an elected government. He called for the expansion of cultural activities with a focus on book fairs and assured full government support for such initiatives.

The event also featured BNP lawmaker Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas as the keynote speaker, further adding significance to the occasion.
