Khulna:Khulna Shipyard Limited (KSY) has launched the third Landing Craft Tank (LCT-104) for the Bangladesh Navy, marking a significant advancement in the country's domestic defense manufacturing industry under the "Made in Bangladesh" initiative. The vessel was inaugurated by Rear Admiral Mohammad Maksud Alam, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Material), during a ceremony attended by senior military and civilian officials.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the LCT-104 was designed by Canada-based Vard Marine and constructed at KSY. It measures 74.5 meters in length and 13 meters in width, with a displacement of 1,505 tonnes and a maximum speed of 17 miles per hour. The LCTs are crucial for joint amphibious operations by the Army and Navy, facilitating the transportation of troops, heavy equipment, and vehicles to coastal and island areas. They also play roles in disaster management, humanitarian assistance, rescue missions, military exercises, training, and logistical operations.

The three LCTs are being built under the supervision of the Navy, with LCT-102 launched on December 4, 2025, and LCT-101 on January 15, 2026. The vessels feature Caterpillar engines, generators, and modern electrical systems, with equipment from reputed Western companies. KSY, an ISO-certified shipyard, has constructed over 800 ships and watercraft and repaired more than 2,500 vessels, contributing to various national development projects.

The domestic construction of these landing craft aims to reduce dependence on imported vessels, save foreign currency, and bolster Bangladesh's defense manufacturing capabilities, maritime sector, and blue economy.
