Faridpur: A Jamaat leader of Dakop Upazila in Khulna was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Bhanga area of Faridpur early today. The deceased was identified as Moulana Abu Sayeed, 52, Ameer of Dakop Upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islam in Khulna, son of late Shohor Ali Sheikh. The injured were identified as Md Anisur Rahman and Md Kamal Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident took place at Bhanga Chourasta intersection in Faridpur around 3.00am when a passenger bus of Royal Paribahan ran over the three Jamaat men as they were taking tea at a roadside tea stall. Their fellow colleagues and local people immediately rushed them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) where the duty doctor declared Sayeed dead.
The two injured were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station Mohammad Ashraf Hossain said the Jamaat leaders and activists were going to Dhaka to join a rally. At around 3.00am, they were drinking tea at a roadside tea stall with their bus parked beside the Khulna-Dhaka highway.
At one stage, they were trying to tie their banner properly with their vehicle when the bus hit them from behind. The body of Sayeed was taken to his residence at Gourkathi village of Chalna in Dakop upazila today, said Munsi Moinul Islam, Assistant Secretary of Khulna District Unit Jamaat.
